Lights, camera, hair, makeup, ACTION!

Happy Monday all! Hoping everyone had a joyous day today - and best part is, Monday is now behind us! Woo hoo! All kidding aside, Mondays are what we make of them, right? Like any other day of the week...(trying to keep that glass half full .....!)

As hubby and I gear up to meet with Dr B on Wednesday (the forthright oncologist dude who is confident enough in his masculinity to wear bright-colored shirts; seriously, I thought that was so cool), I have been giving some thought to the whole hair thing ...yes, as I quipped last night, true confessions - I am mildly obsessed with my hair. Sigh. So, I had this gut-busting conversation with JAM today (the gal who nudged and encouraged and poked and prodded me to write this blog (and then a gentle lather, rinse, repeat on that; oh ...better do that a couple more times!), so thank you a thousand-fold, Fairy Godmutha!) and true to form, I am not going to take it all too seriously. The whole obsession with how we look and how skinny we are and do we have wrinkles and cover that grey/gray and the bajillion dollar cosmetic industry and the ever-growing numbers of folks (my age AND an increasing number of men) who are stampeding to their nearest plastic surgeon's office for a nip, tuck, pluck, suck, plump, pump ...whew .....and again, the whole subject of perspective just leaps to mind for some reason.

Now, having said THAT, I was also so touched today to receive a beautiful, thoughtful gift from another gal at work (bless your heart, TP!) - a gorgeous, brightly colored scarf, vibrant, radiant and just joyous on every level. It made my day in an entirely different way (I really am so so blessed to know so many wonderful people - and especially, vibrant, intelligent, courageous, beautiful, compassionate women - SO blessed)...so, TP gifted me with this beautiful scarf that is perfect for spring ...ideal with so many gorgeous outfits ...and when the time comes, will look joyous and beautiful on Yours' Truly's Noggin. (thank you so, so much TP!) :-)

And ....back to the topic of my discussion with JAM....so, we chatted about wigs. But not the lustrous $2,000 wow-that's-real-hair-how-splendid kind of wigs. Oh nooooo.....the $9.95 variety that comes scrunched into a plastic bag and a part-time high school student who would rather be anywheeeere else has to use a 20-foot long stick with a hook to retrieve it from waaaaaay up high, way up in the rafters ....at the Kingdom of Fun. The one and only, Party City. You know the kind. Long fuchsia "hair" with bangs (think Nicki Minaj). Gigantic (I mean epically HUGE) purple Afros, so big that they cast a shadow. Mullets so epic and creepy that banjo music is just ....well...is just THERE. Two foot high platinum beehives, jauntily adorned with a perky blue velvet bow, and memories of root beer floats, saddle shoes, drive in movies .....yup.... THOSE kinds of wigs. Now I ask you.....how much fun would THAT be!?! Truth is I would love to wear all of those wigs, and you know, there is this little voice in my head that's telling me to just, well, DO it (hehehehe!!!! I feel like a wicked little school girl - how goofy is that?!) Do you remember that scene from Animal House, the one where the one character was contemplating doing the (GASP!) dirty deed with a gal and there was an angel on one shoulder, devil on the other? Angel is saying "don't do it! Don't bust that girl's cherry and strip her of her innocence!" while the devil is saying "f**k her!" OK ....analogy is a little off color (sorrryyy) but methinks you catch the drift. So, tomorrow, I am going to post shots of wigs and I would humbly and cordially invite you fine folks to vote on which ones I should pick up....one of them? Two perhaps? All of them? :-) AND I will have someone snap shots of not only me - resplendent in purple hair - but the expressions of the fine folks I work with when I stroll up to the Starbucks counter and order a medium frappuccino; "extra foam please"...

Will leave you with this question to ponder ....what would you think if someone you worked with came in one day with a bright pink wig, or a mullet or something equally goofy? Truly - I'm curious.

Must sign off ...thank you again for humoring me tonight ....will keep you all posted on what the effervescent Dr B prescribes and hopefully, I won't be a) barfing; b) if I am, that it's not too long. Drew and are sending much love your way, as always, and many, many thanks for your love and compassion and innumerable giggles!!! :-) Tonight's closing is MS's closing (thank you MS and hope you feel better soon!) in anticipation of the I-Hope-I-Don't-Barf-Fest.

Sending positive chemo-tions your way.

Cancerella (and Schifoman)

  2. OMG I LOVE the Trump idea and whole heartedly second that idea. I also vote for Rapunzel locks and then maybe move into men's wigs ...

    3. Ooooh. Elvira works too!!! I have a bitchin' black dress and a serious push up bra for my small boobies. Let's rename her Elweera for all the small-boobied women on the planet.

  3. Amy Winehouse or Wynonna Judd. Both bring a little sassy and a little trashy to the party.
